Aronia

Aronia does not give itself up easily. The berry is black-violet, small, astringent, and that is exactly why we love it: its juice is dense, ink-coloured, and tastes like nothing else in our crates.

Aronia: the fruit that crossed an ocean

Aronia comes from eastern North America, where native peoples dried it and mixed it into winter food. Its cultivation gradually spread across Europe, including through experimental gardens and orchards in the east. It is a modest shrub that asks for little soil and does not fear frost. Its berries are a deep colour: almost black, almost violet, like writing ink.
